CNN reporter Victor Blackwell tweeted a photo of Sen. Pinckney's casket on a horse-drawn wagon as it passed by the controversial flagpole, which is next to a Confederate soldier statue.

President Obama and Vice President Biden, both friends of Pinckney, are set to attend the slain minister's funeral Friday.

Pinckney and eight others were killed when a white man -- identified by police as Dylann Roof, 21 -- opened fire during a Bible study session in Charleston's Emanuel AME Church last Wednesday. He reportedly hoped to trigger a race war in the United States with his terror attack.
